Hotfix

Don't know if this is the right newsgroup for this. Went
into "Add or Remove Programs" to see if anything odd has
been placed on my hard rive (I've had highjacking woes
recently) and I see a lot of Windows XP Hotfix programs
with identifiers like Q331953, Q328310, Q329170, etc.
What is all this crap?

Hi Bill,

Not a crap. Each Qxxxxxx represents an update from Microsoft. To know which update is what, use the following method:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=XXXXXX [Substitute the XXXXXX with the actual numbers. Don't include the "Q"]

You'll also see the $NtUninstall folders in Windows folder. They are created when you install a Microsoft Service Pack, a hot fix, or certain security updates. You may leave them there unless you need hard drive space. Visit http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm and get the utility which removes Hotfix Backup files and the Add/Remove Programs Registry entries. From MVP Doug Knox.

More Information: $Uninstall folders - Description:
