Hotfix & Linksys wireless install problems

Has anyone had problems after installing the Win2000
Hotfix 823980 with trying to install a wireless
router/notebook adaptor? When I look at the device
manager, I notice about 6 hotfixes. The Linksys guys are
saying I need to disable/uninstall these hotfixes to allow
for installing the wireless card, but they won't tell me
if this is going to really kill off my computer.

Help?

I am using a SMC wireless adapter wich stopped working
after applying a driver for it via Windows Update. You
should be able to uninstall all of the hotfixes unless the
documentation say that it cannot. If the card works with
the hotfixes removed, I recommend reinstalling them
individually and testing the wireless between each one.
After you determine which fix(s) are responsible, you can
research it to find out if you really need it/them. Not
all hotfixes are needed on all systems. As for Linksys
tech support, I found it to be unreliable at best. I told
them that I was unable to get WEP to function between
Windows 98 systems and they told me that the client
operating system should provide sufficient security! Hope
this helps.
