In attempting to enable hot plugging of a PS/2 keyboard (i.e., plug in
the keyboard after Windows starts and have it work) I came across the
registry change outlined at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;262798

This change is not working for me, however, on other posts in this
newsgroup it appears that the change has worked. Has anybody else had
any problems getting this to work? Is there some other step that must
be taken to allow hot plugging for PS/2? I'd appreciate any advice you
can provide.

Thank you much,
Travis

Dear Travis,

Do you notice the following sentence in this page?

NOTE: This feature is highly dependent on the computer's BIOS. Because
PS/2 hotplug is not in the PS/2 specification, some PS/2 controllers may not
correctly handle "hotplugging" of a device, and some may short out devices.
This new driver does nothing special to accommodate hotplug other than
ignore initialization errors.

You can try this solution on your other platforms and check the test
result.

Yes, and how convenient that somebody from Advantech responded! We just
happen to be using an Advantech board! Can you tell me whether the
Advantech SOM-4481 ETX Module handles hot-plugging of PS/2, and if so,
whether the BIOS also allows it? Or if there is a different BIOS we can
obtain that will allow it?

Thanks for the help,
Travis
