Howdy y'all !
I've noticed for the past several days that WD screen pops up and gives me
choices to allow or block the following :
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
I haven't the slightest idea what this file is so I choose : allow.

Does anyone know what this file is ? Is it safe ? What measures do I take if
it isn't safe ???

Marty in hot, hot hot Texas :)

it is usually a GOOD program.
however there are some spy/virus/trojan type programs that are suspected of diddling with it.
might be a good idea to download a fresh version of from
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
contains a batch file to insert the host file in the proper place.

Are you also running SpySweeper Anti-Spyware, and do you have the Common Ad
Sites Shield activated?

Lady Tex-I have the exact same thing on my PC & found out that it was
because I use the Spybot hosts files & that's where it references them. I
have Defender set to allow this so it doesn't bug me anymore.(Still shows in
Event Viewer though)

There is an automated interface to update the HOSTS file using the MVPS.ORG
file. Look for the KH Blocker updater about half way down the page on the
Internet Security link below. I use it on all my systems.
