I bought a new stand alone computer today with Windows Vista installed on it.
I am configuring it to run the frontend(presentation layer) , programs
(application layer), and database for an ERP. Now I need to edit the 'hosts'
file in 'c:\system32\drivers\etc' to include the IP address and hostname. The
problem is when I edit the file, Windows does not allow me to save it
although am logged on as administrator.
Any ideas?

do it in safe mode and be sure the read only attribute is OFF.

I usually run notepad as an administrator for editing the hosts file. (Type
notepad in the Start Search box. When it comes up, right click on it and
run as administrator) That allows me to make my changes and then
successfully save.
