Hi! I have done the downloads and now have a list of
hijacked files and also a list of my hosts file. I was
instructed to post my hijack log to a location but that
site no longer wants them posted. Therefore, what do I do
next with the hijacked data?

I found a solution to the IE search problem for me. Not
sure if it will work for all others.

I downloaded the hijackthis exe and ran it. I downloaded
the hosts file reader and ran it. I then clicked on the
reset default option in the hosts file reader and it
changed my hosts fiel back to the original. It also seemed
to eliminate the 01 entries in the hijacked file. I was
then able to do my searches once again.

Frank,
I'll address both of your posts here:
"but that site no longer wants them posted"
Maybe you misread? ...... actually what was stated:

DO NOT POST YOUR LOG FILE INTO SOMEONE ELSE'S THREAD!
START YOUR OWN.
"and it changed my hosts fiel back to the original"
If you check your HOSTS file most likely you'll find *all* entries removed
except:
"127.0.0.1 localhost"

In the event you need to replace you're now empty HOSTS file (see below)

[manual removal method]

Note: not all machines are affected by the same Registry changes
but the user needs to verify in any case.
