HOSTS file - should I have one ?

I'm confused by references to HOSTS file .

Is this installed by default when XP Pro is first installed ?

If so , where would it normally be found ?

B.N.,

The hosts file is in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. All Windows
installations have one - it normally contains only comments which tell
you what to put in there. You can add entries if you wish.
