HOSTS file not there...

Right, the hosts file has no file extension appended to the name. If the
browse windows is filtering for .txt files, then it will not show up.

Well duh...thanks for pointing out the obvious for me. But regardless, I
still get the cannot create the C:\.....\hosts file message. I tried
overwriting as a .txt file and as the all files. same error. Is there
another work around?
 
Are you running notepad "as administrator" (by right-clicking it and
clicking Run As Administrator)?

Programs that do not ask for administrator permissions (such as notepad)
cannot perform administrative tasks (such as modifying the hosts file)
unless you explicitly give them such privileges.

Are you running as an administrator? Is the the file 'read-only' etc. etc.

That did the trick. Thanks. I'm an administrator on the PC, so I didn't
even think of that.
