WD tells me the Hosts Configuration utility wants to change from 127.0 Local
host to a scrillion web site addresses. I blocked it but am not sure whetjher
this is the right thing to do. This happened when I downloaded and installed
Spyware Detector.

Not sure about this but I "think" what you are trying to say is :

The "hosts configuration utility" of "Spyware Detector" is trying to set "a
whole bunch" of website addresses "to" 127.0.0.1

If this is the case, I believe this is what "a" hosts configuration utility
does.
It sets a bunch of "bad website" addresses to "127.0.0.1" which is the
address of your local machine.

If this is one of the things that Spyware Detector is supposed to do, AND
you trust Spyware Detector to be a reliable/trustworthy then you should allow
it. I am not however familier with this product and cannot vouch for it.
Too many products out there have Spyware "this" and Anti "that" in them that
are in fact Garbarge themselves. But off the top of my head this does not
strike me as a "rogue" I am familier with.

Anybody else ???

Thank you Engel,

Rzzle,
Based on Engels finding I would say it would be ok to allow the action,
HOWEVER, I still would ask for feed back from members of this group about
what they think of this product in general. I don't know enough about it.

Thank you Tim Clark. I will do a reinstall and let it go. It doesn't seem to
have made any difference to my browsing and my computer has stayed 'clean'
for the meantime. I checked system32/drivers/etc and there is only 127.0.0 on
the file. Previously there were hundreds of web addresses in there. When I
run AVGFree it always tells me the hosts file was changed and it has changed
it back.
