Like many others I had problems using windows update and together with
contributors in this newsgroup a kind of summary was established to solve
problems with it.
But now I found something I found VERY strange.
I'm using a hosts file obtained(based) on
www.smartin-designs.com/hosts_info.htm
this file contains (amongst others) the entries
0.0.0.0 localhost
0.0.0.0 a248.e.akamai.net
If I start windows update it will poduce a 'Windows Update Error' nr
(0x800A138F) while scanning for files.
If comment a248.e.akamai.net out Windows Update will NOT produce the error
and work the way it should.
MANY adresses from 'akamai.net' are usually blocked by that list obtained
from S.Martin and this I'm sure has been done for good reasons.
Is it known that MS is using akamai.net?
