Hi,

I'm running a 2003 DNS server, no AD. I want to be able to add an A record
for a host in an external domain, have internal clients resolve to that
address for only that one name, but have all other requests for addresses in
that domain forwarded to external DNS servers for resolution. It seems that
adding a new forward lookup zone would lead the server to think it is SOA
and resolve only the one configured host and return lookup failures for all
other hosts. Any insight appreciated. TIA.

Add a Forward Lookup zone with the FQDN of the host i.e. "host.example.com"
then put a blank host in the zone with the IP you want it to resolve to.
I'll bark at you and say (same as parent folder) is not a valid host name
Click OK to create the record anyway.

beautiful. thanks!
