I have two desktop running W2K Pro. First computer named
Jane and the other John. Each has an IP address but no
default gateway. Can ping each others with 100% success.
Jane and John are seen in Computer near me and Microsoft
Network. Jane can access all files in John and printer.
But host John cannot access Jane files. One gets a
statement "//Jane is not accessible. Logon failure. The
user has not been granted the requested logon type at this
computer." Although host Jane has shared C drive and given
John administrative rights and permission.
The network has been configured as a workgroup. When I get
into the local security setting, local policies, with
administrative rights, we get a statement saying "Windows
cannot open the local policy database. The database you
are attempting to open does not exist."
We have spent weeks on trying to solve these problems
unsuccessfully. Even search Microsoft resource for logon
failure reports but only found reports written for NT or
Server type products, none Win2000pro.
We believe it has to do with Security but don't know how
to solve it. Hope someone can help us out. Many
thanks.
