I am trying to save a host file that I changed to acommodate a VPN connection
into our Server. I opened windows/system32/drivers/etc and opened the host
file with notepad. I added the information and then did a save and I keep
getting the message cannot create the host file
windows\system32\drivers\etc\host file
make sure that the path and file name are correct. I am the administrator
on this computer with Vista business.

Am I missing a security setting that would allow me to save this file

I don't know what the problem can be, because I was able to make a change to
the Host file and save it on Vista Ultimate.

What if you save the Host to another area and the try to copy it to
system32?

Did you try to save it as "host file"?
The name of the file is HOSTS with no extension.

And the file permissions may not allow you to write the HOSTS file. On XP,
it is a read only file.

Hello,

The hosts file can only be modified from programs that are running
with your admin power (they prompt you with a "Windows needs your
permission to continue" prompt).

The solution is to launch notepad with your admin power by
right-clicking it and clicking Run As Administrator, and then editing
the file.
