Anyone having luck with ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 drivers?

I have tried the Beta drivers from ATI and the drivers that come with Vista.
With either of these drivers installed the screen refreshes once per 5
seconds.

Uninstalling the driver makes the system work pretty well - but they keep
getting reinstalled by Vista when it detects no drivers are installed.

System: Sager Laptop (can't remember exact model)
3 GHz dual core, 1 GB memory, 40 GB HDD, ... and of course the Video card
with no drivers.

What drivers come with Vista?
You mean the standard VGA drivers?

The Radeon drivers that come with Vista (or perhaps the install downloaded).
Info:
MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 (Microsoft Corportation - WDDM)
Driver Provider: ATI Technologies Inc.
Driver Date: 8/15/2006
Driver Version: 7.15.11.0
Digital Signer: microsoft windows publisher

When I Uninstall these the driver becomes "VgaSave"... I'm not really sure
what this means, but my screen refresh becomes pretty good.

I cannot install other radeon drivers. Only the standard VGA is
installed. I have an Radeon 7000.
I think the VgaSave is some emergence thing.

Hi Nick,

i'm also experiencing similar problems with the ATI Radeon Mobility 9700
Card in my Asus Laptop. Although the driver provided by windows vista works
fine and i'm able to use the Aero 3D Desktop without any delay or loading
time, 3D Gaming is an absolute impossibility as it is choppy and unplayable.
Default Windows Vista driver version is 7.15.11.0.

If I install the RC1 Catalyst from the ATi website i'm not able to play
games at all. The game crashes and windows informs me that there seems to be
a problem with that atixxogl.dll or whatever it's called. Aero works fine
with this driver as well...

Then you can install the older drivers for Windows 2000/XP from the Asus
website, suprisingly, these drivers are also accepted by Vista and boot the
system without errors. You cannot use Aero with these older drivers but the
games (like Defcon a no texture game) work without choppy or delayed
performance. That was driver:
