Dear all,

I just got a Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0, and would like to try the
horizontal scrolling feature. However, after installing it on 2 machines
(both Win2k), none of the machines can see this feature working. Even in
the test program provided by Intellimouse 5.0 (the one that came with the
product CD) fails.

What's going on? Have I got a melfunction one? Should I return it?

Thanks very much in advance,

Patrick

Yes!

I did not solve the problem. But I realized that it is the KVM switch
causing the problem.

When I directly hook up the mouse to the machine, it works great. But when
I connect the mouse to the KVM switch, all the new features (including the
thumb buttons) fail!!

As far as I know, those KVM switchs are simply transfering the incoming
signals from one end to the other without any modifications. I still do not
understand why it would cause such problem.

Maybe I need to get a new switch then.

The "break" in the wire may be affecting the timing of the signalling to the
computer.

As such, you may see the results that you are seeing.

Dear Jason,

Thanks for the reasoning. That makes sense.

So do you mean that all KVM switches will have this problem? Do you know of
any that will make it work?

I just love the WIE so much and really want to make it work. But then I
also need the KVM switch...

Patrick

I'd guess some are more suspectible than others...

While not quite a full subsititute for a KVM, does remote desktop fit your
needs? I know it doesn't help if what you need requires DirectX... but for
simplier things, RDP might work (if you have Windows XP Pro)

Jason,

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried to use VNC too. But somehow it just
gave me too much headaches to make it a long term solution. I don't have
WinXP ... yet. Will try that out later on once I get a copy of it.

Therefore, KVM is still what I am looking for ... :)

Thanks.
