Hello,

I have dual boot 98se/W2k, and I have major problems.
W2k was installed as FAT32. Some of the issues:

1. Installed VB6 on W2k. Programs worked fine on 98,
but I get "object" and "call" errors on W2k. Still works
fine on 98.

2. Could test ASP's on 98 and PWS server before
installing W2k. Now when running on 98, I get "run-time"
scripting and ADO.Connect errors which refer to NTFS
permissions. On 98se?? The DB links in FP2000 are broken
and can't get them back. I also installed FP2000 on W2k.

3. When in W2k can't raise PWS or IIs in Admin. Both
were installed. FP Extensions are installed on both system.
When in Admin Tools, I can't raise the properties window
in Components or Services. Many service's functions are
greyed out. The system error log lists multiple errors all
pointing to "Service Control Manager" but cannot raise
properties to see the details.

4. When attempting to open PWS or IIS nothing happens
but appear as running in processes. /localhost gives me
DNS errors.

I have checked permissions, everything seems to be OK.
Oh! Don't need to logon, goes directly to start, when put
on standby logon screen comes up. Are all these problems
related somehow or are they seperate issues? Any help
would greatly be appreciated.

Thank You,
Andy

Are the OS's installed on the same partition? Are the OS's sharing the same
program files folder?

Hi Dave,

Yes they are on the same partition and do share the
same Program Folder. So does Inetpub, now that I think of
it. The genesis of all this is when 98se had a major
breakdown and could'nt boot-up, I sort of got anxious and
installed W2k. I later was able to get back in to 98se
with FileChecker, but ASP's stop working.

I have another machine that I installed W2k. Installed
VB6 on that one, but get the same errors. Also similar
problems with Services, PWS and IIS. That machine is W2k
only. The computers are not networked.

Another error that occurs on the 98se/W2k machine is
unable to connect to computer "name" when attempting to
use some of the utilities/services.

Thank You,
Andy

Best to do a clean install on that machine. For the other machine with IIS
errors ask them in inetserver.iis

Thanks Dave,

Besides IIS, would you have any idea why I can't get to
Properties when right-cliking on a file or folder??

Andy

Do you by chance have ZA installed? I think this used to sometimes cause
that.

Hi,

Yep! I installed ZA. Allowed are IE & Outlook. It's
actually installed with 98, but was installed on W2k. I
had lost it on 98. When I reinstalled on 98, W2k stopped
loading [it] at startup. What a mess. The only thing I'm
worried about is being able to run VB6 programs on W2k.

Thanx,
Andy
