My homepage address always seems to be preceded with the
fixed prefix "http://wfix.com/passthrough/index.html?".
There is also an unwanted bar at the bottom of the
screen. No matter how many times I reset the address,
restart the computer, and reopen the browser, the prefix
eventually returns. I've read somewhere that this is
called "browser hijacking." Does anyone know if this is a
virus or has any potentially harmful effects? Regardless,
how can I remove it from my computer? Thanks.

Some spyware likely hijacked your homepage. Try Spybot Search and Destroy
or Adaware to get rid of the spyware.
