My friend's PC running Win ME. Open Explorer and his home
page has been changed to www.search247 homepage. No matter
how many times he changes it to the page he wants, within
minutes it has changed back again. Had a look at 'Running
Tasks' in help & Support and noticed a program SSDPSRV.EXE
in windows/system folder (created 22 Mar 2004, modified 13
Dec 2001 [strange?]. Is this the offending program? if not
then any ideas what is running that causes this?
Post answer as other ppl probably have the same prob but
also reply to me personally please at
(e-mail address removed) - Thanks.

This particular newsgroup is devoted to using security in the Microsoft database product called
"Access."
You would be much better off posting to:

microsoft.public.security

But, since you're in "Access Junkie" territory let me offer some help anyway.

The file ssdpsrv.exe is the following:
Windows Me Universal Plug and Play
I would not uninstall that without doing some reading on that first.

You have been taken over by some spyware/adware junk.
First, get rid of the spyware that has installed itself. Download Spybot
Search & Destroy from http://www.spybot.info, and AdAware from
http://www.lavasoft.de
Update both programs, read the help files, scan, and be amazed at all the junk!

See Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines:

Hijack This!

After you cleanup your PC somewhat of spy/ad/mal-ware, verify your antivirus
software is updated and run a full scan of your computer. If you have no
antivirus software - get one!

Here's a free one:
Grisoft AntiVirus:

Empty your Temporary Internet Files as well.

Good luck.
