control of my home page again. Can I reinstall my Zone Alarm now or will I
have the same problem as before? Should I just get a different firewall?

have unclicked zone alarm from my startup reboot, but still cant change my
home page. what do u mean by click on "main"???
thank u
tren
Hi Tren,
I mean by clicking or selecting/Highlighting making the Sub-Folder *Main*
active and show it's contents in the Right Pane/Window, then when it is
active you can locate the Local Page and start Page and Right Click on each
then select Modify and Enter the Data in input text box as been mentioned for
Colin.
What softwares you runing rather than ZA, and sometimes complete Uninstall
for ZA and clean up the left behind traces can elaminate the ZA from the
scenario and enable you to gain control and make your changes.
Do one step at a time by Disabling if that what you meant with (unclicked)
from the Start up programs or the Options on ZA by right click on it and
select Options and disable it and Reboot your machine I presume that what you
did.
If you still have trouble then uninstall the Firewall and left behind traces
of empty folder and Key registry by searching for them and delete all
accurances and see if you still be able to change the HomePage in both IE
properties Window and Registry Eidtor in these two KEYs:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
Right Click on * Local Paage* and select Modify in the Pop up box enter this
Vaalue/Dta : C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm and click Ok.
In the same window (Right Window) Right click on *Start Page* and select
Modify and in the Text box enter:
http://www.myweb.com for example and click
OK.
The same with this KEY:
[+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
On the *Start Page* change it into
http://www.myweb.com
Leave the *Local Page* as it is if it have this stringe of Data:
http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}...... etc
Reboot and see if you got your Home Page set to the new one.

Please write back with your otcome.

At the moment my home page in IE6 is
http://www.google.co.uk/ig?hl=en but I
want to change it to something else, I open IE6 then click on Tools >
Internet Options, I then type a Home Page Address that I want as my home
page I then click on accept and then OK. Shut down IE6 and then reopen and
guess what, it is back on
http://www.google.co.uk/ig?hl=en.
No matter what I try it reverts to that web page, I have never had this
problem before. Does anyone know how to get around this problem. Cheers.
Colin.
Hi Colin,
First of all do you run these softwares on your computer:
= Zone Alarm = Spybot S&D in Tea Timer Mode = Spy Shierf = WeatherBug
= AdAware.... etc.
If yes, then proceed, Open the RUN command and type : msconfig click oK
On the Window click on the Start Up Programs Tab and uncheck the
pre-mentioned programs from starting up.
Then Reboot and see if you could change your Homepage.
If no joy then do the following:
Change the Home page in the following KEYS:
Click on *Main*
[+]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
and look in Right Pane/Window and Locate *Start Page* Right
Click on it and select Modify and enter the Data say for ex;
http://www.MyWeb.com as your Home page and then Locate also this *Local
Page* and Right Click on it and select Modify and put the following;
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
The same with this KEY:
[+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
On the *Start Page* change it into
http://www.myweb.com
Leave the *Local Page* as it is if it have this stringe of Data:
http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}...... etc
Close the Registry and Open the IE Properties by Right Click on the Icon on
your Desktop and select Properties from the drop down list.
On the IE window click on Programs Tab and click on Manage Add-Ons, in the
Add-Ons window Disable Add-Ons for Non-MS IE Add-Ons (ZA, Safer network..etc)
and click OK.
On the same window click *Reset web Settings* and click Apply/OK and Reboot
your computer and see if the new home page is set.
If you still can't change the homepage then you need to uninstall the
Culprit software which blocking you from changing the Address like (ZA, S&D,
AD-Aware...etc), and remove their left behind traces on the System by using
the Local Search engine on the start button and also in the Registry, but be
carefull in the registry not to delete a system file if you in doubt leave it.
After finishing Restart your Machine and see if the issue cured, if all Okay
reinstall your software and configure them to protect your Machine and let
you have control on your computer.
