homepage change, new window small,

I cannot seem to change my homepage. I apply a new one, ex: www.yahoo.com.
when I close and reopen, it is applied as about:blank ? How can I fix this ?
Also everytime I click on a link or open a new window it always is small
(half screen) I have to click the maximize button, how can I fix this ?
Lastly everytime I open I page it asks me if I want to continue because it
might be unsecure and other people might see my information, I clicked the
box; do not show this again, but I still get it. How can I fix this ?
