Alright, miy father bought XP Home edition for his computer a while back and now he has upgraded to XP Proffesional. I would like to know if I can install and use the home edition he is not using. Pls. help!

Timothy;
If Windows XP Home is OEM, no because OEM is normally permanently tied
to the first computer installed regardless the condition of the
original computer.
If Windows XP Pro is an Upgrade, then No as Windows XP Home is tied to
the computer as the qualifier for upgrade.

Otherwise Home may be freely moved to another computer.

If your father used an "upgrade version" of Windows XP Pro, the answer is no.
The Windows XP Home license is now incorporated into the license of the
upgrade version of XP Pro, which now constitutes a complete license for XP Pro.

If he did it with an XP Pro *Upgrade* CD then no you may not - the
license to use that requires that the upgraded 'qualifying system' is
retained.

If it was an independent 'Full' edition, then you may install the Home
one - as long as *that* was retail and not one of the 'OEM' ones 'for
supply only with a new computer' which are licensed solely for the
machine on which first installed. When it comes to activation, if it is
more than 120 days since he last did it, you will find it will go
through on the net just like first time. If not, you will have to
phone a toll-free number that will be given, to explain and swap one
long number for another to check back as you type it in
