I am not sure if this is a problem with my ethernet connection set-up under
Windows 2000 or a router configuration problem, so any ideas will be
appreciated!

My configuration is two Windows 2000 machines and a Linux box connected to a
Linksys BEFSR41 Cable router. The WAN side of the router is connected to my
cable modem and the computers connected to the local ports. Each of the
computers is set up for DHCP (which the router provides), and has no
problems getting out onto the internet (WAN) via the cable modem. However,
none of the local machines appears to be able to communicate another. Even
trying to ping a machine after getting the IP address off of it with
ipconfig (ex. 192.168.1.2) results in a time-out.

The cable modem is a recent addition, and prior to that I had a simple
ethernet hub and fixed IPs (192.168.1.2,3,4) on the machines and was able to
see the Win2000 machines via Network Neighborhood, could FTP, etc.

So, I have concluded that either I need to do some sort of special
configuration on the Windows machines for them to see each other since I
have switched from static IPs to DHCP, or there is some sort of
configuration setting on the Linksys to make it behave like a simple hub for
local machines.

Any suggestions on whether it is a Windows problem or Linksys problem, and
where I can find info on solving the problem will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Don
