Home page problem when publishing to Linux-based host

When I take a web that works OK on a Windows based server with FP
extensions, then publish it to a Linux-based host with FP extensions, FP
2003 (of course), renames default.htm to index.html. When I view the new
home page in a browser, I don't get the banner or some of the menus, and FP
tells me to include the page in the navigation structure to include banners,
menus etc., just as it does for a Windows host. So I deleted the old Home
page from the navigation structure, meaning to add the new (index.html),
which appeared to work, but then I recalculated the web from FP, and the
main part of the navigation structure disappeared, which was not undoable.
What should I have done to make a seamless publish to a Linux host?

Any help, advice etc. gratefully received and acknowledged.

Dan

On the windows server, rename the home page to index.html and let FrontPage
update
all links.

Then publish to the UNIX server.

In addition to Steve's response, on the Windows server itself (in IIS
MMC) you should add index.html to the list of acceptable home page
filenames. index.htm is usually one of the default names in that
list, but index.html is not.

Thanks, Ron - how do I do that - I only have the standard administration
page - "FP Server Extensions 2002 site administration", and I can't see a
way to get at anything to do with IIS from FP.

Thanks,

Dan

You need administrative access to the server, either through remote
desktop or physical. Changing IIS configuration cannot be done from
FrontPage.
On the server:
Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Internet Information
Services
Expand the tree in the left column, and right click on the web server.
Choose Properties
On the Documents tag, Add the new page name.
Click OK
Right click the web site again, and choose Stop
Right click, and choose Start.
Close the MMC.

Many thanks, Ron.
