My computer would change the registry Search webpages and
homepage on Reboot. I tried to reload XP and IE but it
dies on the blue setup screen. I tried loading virus
software, Norton and McAfee but both lock up during the
scan for viruses. I was ready to format my hard drive
when I found this chat area. Thanks to what I read here I
think I found the problem in msconfig, with a SYS file.
It was running regedit on startup. The system seems fine
without it but it runs really slow now and I still can't
scan my system for Viruses. Please advise.

Try to scan for viruses in safe mode, Also start and
search page changes like that are a sign of spyware your
anti-virus will not detect this
