Home Networking

Hi Guys,

Presently I have a problem with setting up a home network. I have a machine
running XP and the other running Windows 98se.
The XP machine is the one which connects to the internet and the Windows 98
connects through the XP machine to the internet. (Supposedly)
The problem arisen when trying to network them together, I managed to get
the two computers to see each other using the XP disc as the setup file it
created on a floppy never worked, now the internet connection has gone. I
have tried everything to re connect this, reformatted the XP machine but
nothing....any help? The network wizard asked which network card connected
to the internet and it never has worked since. I have used my ISP setup
disc, this also failed to work.

I have two network cards on the XP machine and one on the Windows 98,
Internet connection is via a cable modem connected to one of the network
cards. NTL is my ISP.

Thx in advance
Gary

PS. Yes i am new to networking! lol

Have you tried rebooting the modem? Sometimes that will do the trick. And
really, the best way to access the internet with two (or more) computer is
to use a router. For about $40 you can access the internet without having
to have both computers running and you get the benefit of a firewall with
the router.
