I have three machines linked through an XP Home Network. Two are identical laptops running on Intel Celeron 2.7Gb processors with 512MB RAM and 40Gb discs. The other is a desktop running on a Pentium 4, 2.53GB processor with 512MB RAM and 120GB disc. The three machines are linked through a Netgear RP614UK Cable/DSL Web Safe Router Gateway which accesses the internet through a cable modem

I have recently reinstalled all the software on the desktop and when I had a minimum setup (just Windows, ZoneLabs Firewall and Internet Exporer) I could share files and the printer (attached to the desktop) between all the machines and all the machines could acess the Internet. I have now reinstalled all the desktop software and now I can only access laptop files from the desktop. All the machines can still access the Internet. However, from the laptops I can neither share desktop files nor successfully use the desktop's printer even when I close down all the anti-virus and firewall software

The laptops still see the MSHome Network and each of the computers attached to it. They can even see the shared high-level directories. However, when I try to access the files, I get the following message

Office\[name of directory]\ is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions
Not enough server storage is available to process this command

If I try to use the desktop printer from one of the laptops, I get the following message

This document failed to print

"ping" shows access to each computer in each direction

I've now been trying to sort the problem out for two weeks and I've tried everything I can think of or which any of the help files, etc. have suggested. Any ideas

Jerry

Greetings Jerry,

This can be caused by Norton Antivirus. Check the
Evenviewer for an event ID 2011. The problem is on the
machine you are attempting to connect to. See the
following MS KB Article.

Hi Eric

Thanks for the tip. I found the article (eventually) and another similar one. I'll have read and then see what I can achieve. with this information. Norton Antivirus was one of the programmes that I added to the desktop after the network worked and before it stopped doing so. Having said that, it's was always on the two laptops!

You're welcome. Let us know how it goes. =)
