Hi all. I'm trying to set up my two computers so I can
share files between the two and I'm ready to throw both
of them out the window. Please help. Here is my issue:
I have a laptop (VPR Matrix running on XP Home - with
Linksys wireless card) and a Desktop (Dell Dimension
running on XP Home). I have a broadband internet
connection that connects to my Linksys Wireless-B
Broadband Router. I have Norton's Internet Security
(w/Firewall) on the desktop and have Nortons Anti Virus
on both computers. I am easily able to share the
internet connection.
After using the Network Wizard, I've named my workgroup
(HOME) and named both my computers unique names as well.
With the laptop, I'm able to see the Desktop, but when I
click on it, I get a permission error. On the desktop, I
get the same type of error (although not exact) when I
click on the 'view workgroup computers' from my network
places.
All I want to do is be able to work on my laptop in one
room on files that are on my desktop, in another room
without having to save do a disc and take that disc to
the other PC, etc.
Please help me - I've gone through about a dozen of the
messages in this newsgroup, and none have been
successful. I do notice that some have passwords
mentioned. Neither one of my PC's ask for a password
when they are turned on.

FOR ALL INTERESTED - I FOUND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THAT I
HAD ZONEALARM ACTIVE AND THIS WAS NOT ALLOWING ME TO DO
ANYTHING. CHECK IT OUR ON YOUR AND SEE IF IT HELPS...

I conmiserate. I have the same problem with the only
diference is that the Desktop does not "see" the laptop
altough the laptop does see the desktop. I have lost all
(^*(%$% day trying to solve it to no avail. I have also
disconected Zone Alarm but no cigar.

I finally solved the problem. I disconnected Zone Alarm
and XP firewalls in properties sections o the network
cards.(as well as the authentication requirements.)

Great. Wish I were as lucky. I've done everything I can
think of (see my recent post tonight).

Have you fixed the problem yet? I am having the exact same
problem. If you find a fix could you please let me know
what it is. I have pretty much the exact same info as you.
I am using a Belkin wireless router, My laptop sees the
shared printer and folders on my desktop, but I get the
same error message you get. I had the network working
briefly Friday night. But Saturday it wouldn't work ( I
didn't change anything on either computer). I am getting
really frustrated with the whole process.
