Can someone help me find a tutorial on setting up the way a four or five
machine peer to peer network should be connected internally?

This is for my home and all the exterior networking (hub, router, etc.) was
finished some time ago by a technician and was working fine. Unfournately, I
started trying to connect various drives and folders and now my network is a
mess!

All three machines are XP Pro and I want to set them up in the "classic"
configuartion just as a good technician would. Furthermore, I promise never
to change that configuaration again, once its set up properly. Thanks.

You can easily change to classic view by right-clicking a
blank area on the desktop and choosing Properties. Click
the "Appearance" tab and you can easily change it Windows
XP to classic view if you wish. I assume this is what you
are tring to accomplish. What problems are you having
with your network?

Here are some links that might be helpful.

Hi Eric,

I didn't mean "classic view" from a visual standpoint. I meant from from a
file and sharing standpoint. How would a "normal" four or five machine peer
to peer network be set up? I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, just attain
a normal peer to peer set up. I have heard of "simple file sharing" but I
don't know what means.

Simple File Sharing doesn't have any security. When a
disk a shared, there are no permissions or passwords and
everyone can access it. You can enable and disable Simple
File Sharing in XP Pro, it's located under the Folder
Properties. Simple File Sharing is enabled by default in
XP Pro, but the Pro version of Windows XP has much better
way of controlling file sharing with Access Control List.
