I have an existing pc xp pro, it at one time was the home network hub, the pc
I was using for a satellite no longer exists, now I'm building a new pc and
wish to join this to the existing pc, I have the idea that I need to delete
the old network setup/config and set up a new network config, once I have the
new pc up and running with xp, is this accurate?
Both pc's are going to be connected using a dlink router and sharing a DSL
link to the internet.

I'm not sure what you mean by "home network hub" and "satellite".

If you've enabled ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the existing
PC, disable ICS:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right-click the Internet connection.
3. Click Properties.
4. Click Advanced.
5. Un-check the first box under "Internet Connection Sharing".

Configure the LAN connection on each computer to obtain an IP address
and DNS server address automatically. The router will automatically
configure those addresses.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on each computer. If the Wizard detects
the router's shared Internet connection, tell the Wizard to use that.
Otherwise, tell the Wizard that the computer connects to the Internet
through a residential gateway.

ok, lets try this:

I followed your suggestions and it worked, I can now see both pc's from each
other, I failed to mention that the new pc had Zonealarm 5 on it, I have
since disabled it.

Now a new problem has cropped up, with third party software.
Windows can see the internet and I can surf and download using ie6 just
fine, however when I attempt to update almost any non windows software I get
various errors ranging from no ssl connection, to no internet connection,
only on the new pc xp pro, this makes no sense, how can I surf the internet
but not find any connection when I attempt to update adaware, or spyware
blaster or register hp printer software?? what is the deal, possibly netware
issues? Hmmmm I will have to look at that when I get a chance, any
suggestions?

You're welcome.

For the updating problem, I'd start by un-installing (not just
disabling) ZoneAlarm or any other firewall program.

If that doesn't fix it, here are some places to get help with the
products you mentioned:
