Hi,

I have a unique situation where I have 2 computers (1 XP pro, 1 Win2K)
networked with a D-Link DI-704P router, but I'm waiting for high-speed DSL
so in the meantime, I'm using dial-up on each computer with their respective
modems.

The problem is I'm receiving errors (listed below), related to the DNScache
and other areas. As well, each computer acts like it has a LAN DSL
connection and I can see this when I restart and MSN Messenger keeps trying
to connect even though I'm not on the internet.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Cheryl

System Log Error about 5 minutes after restart,

The DNS Client service could not contact any DNS servers for a repeated
number of attempts. For the next 30 seconds the DNS Client service will not
use the network to avoid further network performance problems. It will
resume its normal behavior after that. If this problem persists, verify your
TCP/IP configuration, specifically check that you have a preferred (and
possibly an alternate) DNS server configured. If the problem continues,
verify network conditions to these DNS servers or contact your network
administrator.

System Log Error not quite as frequent as the above error,

The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master
\\CJBRINKWORTH on the network
\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{5D0CA03E-60F5-41C7-8367-B32C0F226AE5}. The data is the
error code.

Application Log Error just before restart,

The COM+ Event System detected a corrupt IEventSubscription object. The COM+
Event System has removed object ID {BC88957F-3193-49B7-B380-BA2DCFF09B9A}.
The subscriber will no longer be notified when the event occurs.

Application Log Error not quite as frequent as the above error,

WMI ADAP was unable to process the Spooler performance library due to a time
violation in the collect function

Hi, Cheryl.
2 computers... networked with a... router... using dial-up on each computer...
I'm receiving errors... related to the DNScache

The errors are coming from the way you've configured TCP/IP on each PC
and from MSN Messenger.
The DNS Client service could not contact any DNS servers...

In each PC, go into Network Connections, right-click on your local
network connection and choose "Properties", scroll to TCP/IP and
choose "Properties", and ensure that under "Use the following DNS
server addresses", you've entered the router's IP address.
The COM+ Event System detected a corrupt IEventSubscription object.

This one's easy. It's coming from MSN Messenger 5.0 or 6.0, which, due
to a bug, adds this error to the AppLog at every logoff (or shutdown).
To avoid the AppLog entry, you can right-click on its system tray icon
and choose "Exit". I know of no other way to avoid this pesky error.
