I just replaced my Dell desktop and was running a
Microsoft Home Network wirelessly with my XP desktop and
Win 2000 laptop. In swapping the desktops I had immediate
use of the network, then I turned on the encryption option
on my router (WEP) and it shut down. I have since turned
off the encrytpion option and tried to reset my network,
but to no avail. Currently unable to print via my network
or view or swap files. Can someone help?? Thanks!!

Wep will just secure the connection. If your physical communication is ok
(ie we can ping) then we need to move up the ladder and check our user
accounts etc. Make sure that you have a like username/password on each
system. Once you do this you can use transitive credentials and you should
be able to access the shared resources you have access to.

Brian, thank you for your help. I understand the concept
of like username/password on each system, but I am
unfamiliar with transitive creditals. Do you mind
expounding. Thanks a million!

the terms are one in the same. :)

example, if you log into systema as usera with passworda, and then try and
access systemb with the usernamea and passworda, if an account exists you
will be granted access even if the specific account from systema has not be
granted.

Make sense?

Totally makes sense. I can't wait to go home and try
working this out. Will let you know. Thanks again.
Cheers.

I just gave both XP and 2000 machines identical user names
and passwords and still can't view network folders. Can
anyone help? Thanks!

Yes I did ... I am still getting the error message "X
folder is not accessible. The network path was not found."

Cheers,

I disabled my firewalls and i am now able to view files
from either computer and print, etc. Thanks so much.
Nothing comes easy!!!

Cheers,

This is a good example folks of how the personal firewall software can
effect the behavior. If the personal firewall software has file sharing
options, then make sure you factor those into the trouble shooting process
as well. :)
