I am trying to re-network two computers: one running
Windows XP and the other running Windows 98 (which I just
did a complete reinstall on). My problems are as follows:
1. In Windows XP, the "Network Connections" screen is
completely blank. [Therefore, there is no way to check
the connections or access any information on the internet
and home networks.]
2. In Windows XP, the "Network Setup Wizard" and option
to "set up or change your home or office network" are
both not functioning. You push the "button" and
absolutely nothing happens.
3. There is absolutely nothing in the "Networking
Troubleshooter" that relates to the above problems!
4. The Windows XP system can "read" and acknowledge the
printers on the Windows 98 system, but the 98 system
fails to recognize any printers even exist on the XP
side.
5. Additionally, the Windows 98 "Network Neighborhood"
shows two non existent printers on its own system (in
addition to the ones that really exist.) I have tried to
delete these phantom printers, but the system won't let
me.

How do I correct/resolve these problems?

First make sure that your Network Connections Service and Remote Access
Connection Manager services are running. If they are then compare the LAN
connections in the connections folder with the Network Adapter drivers in
device manager. If there is a Network Adapter driver that doesn't have a
corresponding connection in the connections folder then try reinstalling it.

Dear Ken:
I just posted a reply and then re-read your message-
What I find really confusing is how you suggest I check
the "Network Connection Manager" when (as I stated
earlier), the screen is completely blank! There are no
LAN entries or anything else for that matter. That is
why I am seeking help!! Please advise!
