Home networking problem

I recently set up a d-link 614+ router to share my cable
internet connection between my Win XP Home desktop and the
laptop I use at work which runs Win 2000 Pro. My access
to the internet from both machines works great. I would
like to set up a home network between both machines, but
as of yet I am having no luck. I ran the network wizard
on the XP machine but I could not complete the
instructions from the wizard to run it on the 2000 pro
machine because 2000 pro would not allow it. My cable
hookup requires DHCP, and I can ping either machine from
the other. When I go to my network places both machines
can 'see' each other, but when I try to connect in either
direction I get the error message "the network path in not
found". I'm sure there is a simple solution to this
problem but so far I am having no luck. Can someone help
with this?

Good Evening,
Had the same problem. Go to the XP Home machine, open up your firewall
software,
in Norton , select Internet Zone Control, add in the IP address of your
other system.
Make sure to then allow sharing of whatever drive or file folders you
need to share.
If you have a different Firewall then you will need to find out how to
add your LAPTOP
IP address in to allow it as a TRUSTED computer.

Best of LUCK,

Supertech
