Hi,
I am running windows xp home. I used to have all my computers linked on a
home network but after installing ca antivirus my computers are only having
one sided conversations. My desktop can access notebooks shared files but my
notebook can see the printer but wont access my desktop shared files or
printer. All signs point to the firewall but that's not it as the printer is
set to share. Can anyone help please?

Which anti-virus software? Some security software may block traffic. Below
are some examples.

Can't access sharing because of NortonFeb 3, 2008 ... It helped me figure
out that it was Norton Internet Security ... If you allow sharing after
installing Norton, you have to manually trust ...

Laptop can't see Desktop because ...It was stupid McAfee not letting
incoming enquiries through. ... McAfee firewall required >> not only
adding the "allow LAN computers" but you have to ...

I was running ca antivirus also known as vet for the last year ( the problem
started when istarted using ca) I am now running AVG. I thought that maybe
now that I had changed antivirus programs that I could network the computers
again. I tried the Network wizzard set up, it didnt work. I checked the
windows firewall setting and the printer is set to share. When searching it
says "\\computer is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resouce. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions. The network path was not found"
I downloaded a program called Network magic, it could find the computer but
not comunicate with it
so what now and what is pinging and how do i do that if i need to

Cheers BBJ

Hi
I would get rid of the AV applications and make sure that nothing stayed
behind in the startup or as a running service,
http://www.ezlan.net/infestation.html#startup
The establish the Network shares.
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.
Vista File and Printer Sharing-

You can use Microsoft One Care,

I also have good experience with this free AV application,

surposed to make life easy?

I am having the same sort of problem. I have two new computers - both
using Trend Pc 2008. i contacted Trend and received instructions as to
how to set up the firewall and it worked. Then I had a problem with the
network card and the desktop where the printer was connected had to go
to the shop. When it came back the firewall on Trend would not go on.
Finally uninstalled Trend completely and now cannot reinstall.
Installed AVG free and cannot set up the laptop to print to the
desktop. Any help is appreciated.
