Both computers in same room. both Ethernet cables to gateway.

I intend to control both with a KVM switch and cables, one monitor one mouse.

Am using DSL gateway. I also want to share files and printer. Now, my
question is will this configuration work work. Please be patient, my
knowlege is very limited. Any suggestions qwill be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi
If your DSL Gateway is a combination Modem/Router and the two computers can
use the Internet, then configure the File and Printer Sharing of each
computer and you are set.
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.
Vista File and Printer Sharing-

Basic XP -

Advanced XP - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040
Printer Sharing XP -

Windows Native Firewall setting for Sharing XP -

Otherwise you need to buy Cable/DSL Router connect it to the Modem, connect
the two computers to the Router, configure it as per the Router's manual and
when the two computers can share the Internet configure the Sharing in the
same manner as mentioned above.
The Network should look like this, http://www.ezlan.net/network/router.jpg
Jack (MVP-Networking).

Many thanks for your prompt and complete response Jack.
My gateway is a combo. (Siemens 6520) and will accomidate four computers.

Again, thanks
