Home network???

I have a few computers connected to a hub. I have an XP machine set up with
ICS, and gives out the IPs, so i do not need a static IP.

But, in VISTA, my network is always Public, which it is NOT!, and a unknown
network...

Now do i stop it saying my network is public, and name my network??

Go to the Network and Sharing Centre, select 'Customise' against your
network and change the location and name.

Covered in detail in the Help. :->

I have already tried that.. but it is blocked. ANd the network always become
Public after a restart...
 
I have the very same problem...
First it all worked. I had a link with the other computers in the network
and i had access to the internet.
Then, sometimes i lost the internetconnection, it became worser and worser
and now i'm in the situation (just after een simple restart), that the
networkname is "unknown network" and public.
I can change the public to private but i cannot change the name (blocked).
The access is only "local".

How can i know that it my networkcard is still ok ? How can i test that ?
If this hardware is not working properly, can i get then that problem ?

Is there an other way to test, or better, to find out what the cause is ?

Do you have a third party firewall? What antivirus / antitrojan protection do
you use? This is similar to folks finding their peer computers showing in the
"Internet" zone, rather than the "Local" zone, in My Network Places, under
Windows XP.
