I have 2 pcs running Win2K Pro and 1 running XP Home and I am having problems with all three seeing each other. One of the Win 2k pcs can see the other 2 pcs and access shared directories but whenever I try and access the workgroup from the the other Win2k pc and the XP home pc I get an error that the Workgroup is not accessible. I am able to ping all 3 pcs as well as the default gateway.My home network uses a 4-port router for LAN conectivity and internet connection sharing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.

4. Run "ipconfig /all" on XP and look at the "Node Type" at the
beginning of the output. If it says "Peer-to-Peer" (which should
actually be "Point-to-Point") that's the problem. It means that the
computer only uses a WINS server, which isn't available on a
peer-to-peer network for NetBIOS name resolution.

If that's the case, run the registry editor, open this key:

HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters

and delete these values if they're present:

NodeType
DhcpNodeType

Reboot, then try network access again.

If that doesn't fix it, open that registry key again, create a DWORD
value called "NodeType", and set it to 1 for "Broadcast" or 4 for
"Mixed".

Fantastic after I did a few things more,

I restored my system to a time where internet was working and no networking wizard was run

I edited the DchpnodeType to a value of 1 and rebooted to find broadcast rather than Peer to peer.

I had to go to microsoft help reference to find the complete path to this registry hkey



I then reran the newtork wizard and it still did not work.

I disabled the bridge then re enabled the bridge and I was finally able to see the network and it sees me.
