I have XPPro on my Desktop, and XPHome on my Laptop. I
set a home network using tne Network Setup Wizard and
everything works fine. I get internet on my laptop,
printer sharing and file sharing. When I shut down both
computers and reboot, I can no longer connect to the
internet with my laptop. I lose the Internet Gateway in
my Network Connections for my laptop. When I run the
Network Setup Wizard again, the connection is restored
and I can connect to the internet once again. I have been
running the Network Setup Wizard everytime I boot up. to
establish my home network. This doesn't seem right.
Compaq the laptop manufacturer can't help me but
Microsoft says they are the one to solve this problem. I
am caught in a Catch 22 and hoping that someone in the
newsgroups can help me resolve this problem,

have you tried just entering the gateway manually instead of going
through the whole wizard?
also, this sounds more like a microsoft issue than a Compaq issue

I have a very similar situation I have Windows XP home
editon on my Dell desktop and Compaq notebook when ever
either of the two computers restarts or get shutdown I
cant re-establish a network connection on both computers
its says a network cable is unplugged. Only after
restarting and shutting down both computer (if im lukcy)
will they re-establish a connection. I dont understand
this one bit and its pissing me off. Im using a phoneline
network. Anyone please help me!!

Instead of restarting the computers, try just disabling and then
enabling their local area network connections.

In my experience, phoneline networks are more likely to have that type
of problem than wired Ethernet, wireless Ethernet, or powerline
networks.
