PLEASE!!! I am a dummy with this stuff! I have been
trying to network 2 XP computers for 2 days now.

I keep getting the message "the list of servers for this
workgroup is not currently available".

They are directly connected via Cat 5E Crossover Cable.
The computers have different names. Ping from client
fails every time. Ping from host varies.

HELP PLEASE!

Some people just shouldn't tinker. No one in this forum
will help you. You can't even help yourself.

What version of XP are you using on each machine?
Did you run the network wizard?
Are they both members of the same workgroup? Check you've put them in
workgroups and not a domain.
Did you enable simple file sharing?
Have you shared any directories?
Under what circumstances do you get the error message?
Have you tried disabling any firewalls you may have running. Look
specifically for the windows one and disable it permanently - download a
free one off the net in preference.

Hans-Georg:

Thanks! There is a lot of info on the page you referred
me to. I will check this out today!
