Ignore the previous comment. I hub will do just fine. You don't need a DHCP
server for this. just assign an IP address to both of the NIC cards that are
in the same subnet. If you just want to connect the 2 boxes without going
out to the internet you can do something like this:
Computer 1: IP 192.168.1.2. Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway:
192.168.1.1
Computer 2: IP 192.168.1.3 with the same info for subnet and gateway.
Once you have done this, they should see each other. Do a "ping" to verify
that the card are working.
You can also connect to a drive on the other box with the "net use" command.
Hope this helps,
Claus

Thanks for reply!
The same network, if the win2000 machine replaced with win2000 server
instead of professional, can connect with the win98 machine. How the server
make the connection? by DHCP server, NetBEUI or TCP/IP? Is it possible to
install DHCP server on win2000 professional machine?

A hub is not designed for this type of connection.
A router will do it, so will a crossover cable.
