I've got a desktop PC (WinXP Pro SP1) with network connections to a cable
modem and to a notebook PC (WinXP Home SP1). The Home Networking Setup
Wizard gets an error on the desktop PC. I've manually configured the
desktop to share its internet connection (which works) and its shared files
(which doesn't work). The desktop PC sees the notebook's shared folders
under Network Places (as well as its own shared folders), but not vice
versa. The notebook PC does see the desktop PC under Network Places, but
does not see the desktop's shared folders. If I click on the desktop-PC
Network Place on the notebook PC, it prompts me to log in; then it tells me
I don't have permission to use that network resource. The desktop PC's
Shared Documents folder has "Share this folder" checked, with Full Control
permissions granted to Everyone. The folder's NTFS permissions grant
Modify, Read&Execute, List Folder, Read, and Write permissions to Everyone.
This all worked fine until today, when I switched to a new hard drive on my
desktop PC and did a fresh install of XP. Now I can't figure out how to
recreate the network configuration that used to work.
Any advice appreciated.
