Home Network (non)Sharing - Win XP & Win 2k

I have a home network with 2 W2K Pro stations and 1 XP Home. I can't get
the XP machine sharted folders to be accessible on a W2K machine.

I can Ping, both ways, using the IP addresses as well as computer names.
I CAN browse shared folders located on the W2K pcs from the XP computer.
I CANNOT find the XP computer using RUN: \\XPcomputername on the W2K
machine. Neither can I find it with the W2K Search for Computers.

I can browse shared folders between the W2K machines.
I have the XP computer's XP default firewall disabled.
All have the same workgroup name.
One W2K machine is configured with ICS. The XP machine CAN sucessfully
access the internet through it.
I have common adminstrative login account names and passwords on the W2K and
XP machines.

What am I missing?
 
On the XP machine open up Network Connections. Right click on your Lan
connection and select properties. Is "File and Print Sharing for Microsoft
Networks" listed and checked?

What kind of error messages, if any, are you getting when you try to access
resources on the XP box?

File and Print sharing is ON on the XP machine. The error message (on the
Win 2k machine trying to find the XP box) is "The network path is not
found." Likewise for RUN: \\192.168.0.110.
 
On the XP PC, click Start, click Run, type:
Regedit (hit enter)

Next, locate HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

Ensure that "RestrictAnonymous" is set to 0.

Close and reboot.

Have you shared anything on the XP machine? Then run \\PC\Sharename and see
what happens.

One question I should have asked, are you running any 3rd party security
related programs?
Anything like Norton or McAfee internet securtiy suites?

\\PC\SharedDocs gives the same result. Also, in regards to 3rd party sw, my
McAfee Firewall, when set to "Allow All", didn't make any difference.

A firewalls job is to lock down your network. If your network is not
functioning it may be because of the firewall. Uninstall all firewalls
before attempting to diagnose a network. Failure to do so may result in all
of your efforts being a waste of time.

Once your network is functioning as it should, THEN lock it down with a
firewall.

Your firewall may be doing such a good job, it's keeping even you out.

Click Start, click Run, type: secpol.msc (hit enter).

2. Click Local Policies, click User Rights Assignment, click "Access this
computer from the network" and make sure that the Everyone group is
included.

3. Click "Deny access to this computer from the network" and ensure that the
Everyone group is NOT included. If simple file sharing is enabled, make
sure that the Guest account is NOT included.

You might want to turn it off. Disconnect from the internet also.
Then see if your network runs correctly. Once you're LAN's up and
running, restart McAfee firewall and connect to the internet.
