for study purposes, I want to establish a local, home-network domain. The 3
pc's are, 2 Win2k Server os's and one XP professional pc.
I want to use one of the Win2k Server boxes as my domain controller. I'm at
a loss with establishing proper DNS configs. I have just promoted Micky pc
to domain controller. It recognizes itself! whew. The domain name and
Mickey computer is present in the windows explorer Minnie client pc cannot
have it's name changed from the workgroup to the mydomain.loc. I keep
getting an error message about duplicate credentials??? How do I get Minnie
to join the domain? I haven't even tried to join the 3rd pc yet.

Proper DNS configuration is crucial for a Windows 2000 domain. Make sure the domain
controller points only to itself by it's assigned static IP address for preferred dns
server and all domain computers must point ONLY to the domain controller. Any
computers you want to join to the domain must also point to the domain controller
before joining. See the link below on dns and the other link to Microsoft for
searches which will be your friend to resolve problems. Try to search for exact error
message key words and maybe narrow the search to support and troubleshooting. LabMice
in that last link is also a great place to learn Windows 2000/2003 --- Steve

things turn out...mgm
