Can anyone please recommend a laser printer for my home office. I'm
interested in black and white only and want the maintenance costs including
price per page to be low. I prefer HP but am open to suggestions if there
are other vendors providing good kit.

TIA

I'm happy with my Brother 5140 at $179.00

Any that is re-fillable
I bought a cheap Samsung £54 inc del. in the UK, it turns out to be
real workhorse, the toner is around £60, I got three bottles of tone
for £12 and up til now used just one bottle, needles to say I've save
3 x £60

As a guide visit this site, it will give you an idea of which laser
are re-fillable and show's you how-

http://www.refilltoner.com

The ML1510 turned out to be a real work horse, I use it for making PC
designs using toner transfer paper, the stuff you iron on, I use i
along side an ip5000 a document printer

The Samsung is just an end cap that is sprised off, this firm eve
sends you a new one, they are refillible as long as the toner drum i
ok, the toner drum is within the toner unit, hence the expense

I have used HP, Xerox, and Tektronix (same as xerox) and all have
worked great. Xerox can be a little pricey but they seem to be a better
maker.

Forget new cheapies, and look at second-user kit on FleaBay.

LJ 5 or 4000, used.
Buy new/sealed toners from fleaBay.

I got a LJ5N a year or so ago for about fifty quid delivered. Something
like 15,000 pages on it from new - barely run in. To that, add the new
genuine toner for it for twenty quid, delivered.

They will cost more initially, but depending on your starting budget,
its probably worth looking at Kyocera's Ecosys machines, FS-xxxx as they
would appear to be built to the sort of quality that HP were doing about
15 years ago.

Some 'El cheapo's' like mine for £54 UK inc. del. was brand new and
with 12 months warrenty, only wished I bought it before the Epson C62
- not one ounce of trouble with it.

RCE-

There are many good printers on the market that may meet your needs. My
favorite would be the HP 2300, or its replacement if it is no longer
current. It isn't the cheapest, but may be worth the cost for ease of use
and availablity of supplies.

The printer comes with a USB interface, but is also available with a
JetDirect network card. It has an EIO socket, so you could add the card
later.

There is also a version with a duplexer. If you may need that, you must
get it at the start since it can't be added later.

I second that advice.

LJ4+, LJ5, LJ4000, LJ4050. Excellent build.

Not LJ4100, Nothing new.
