I created a new user in my Windows XP Pro station. I
tried to change the Home Folder using the mmc command.

In the Home Folder menu>Local path, I entered d:\user8.
I expected my future documents can be saved in d:\user8
as a defaut.

I created a test document using MS Word and tried to save
the new document. But it was not saved in d:\user8.

Can anyone tell me which of my steps was wrong? Do I
misunderstand the Home Folder meaning?

Not sure what you mean by home folder but you can move the My Documents
folder for your user account. Right click on My Documents, select
Properties and click the Move button. Follow the on screen prompts to
complete.
