Can anyone explain what is the difference between a users home folder (as set
in the profile tab of the account properties) and My Documents, for a local
account?

Generally - a home drive share is a network location, My Documents is a
local location on the PC.
Can be none - as you *could* redirect the user's My Document folder to the
location of the user's 'home drive'.

MY DOCUMENTS IS A SUB FOLDER OF THE USERS PROFILE FOLDER.
MY DOCUMENTS IS FOUND ON THE START MENU AND IS A SHORT CUT TO MY DOCUMENTS
OF THE PERSON CURRENTLY LOGGED ON.
IF YOU GO TO YOUR USERS PROFILE FOLDER YOU WILL FIND MY DOCUMENTS AS A
SUBFOLDER.

More Clarification

I feel very lucky to have found this thread for I had just started looking for an answer to this very same question this morning.

I currently move user's My Documents folder to a share on the server because they refuse to stop saving sensitive and irreplaceable data to a place that it is backed up. Since this involves working on each pc, albeit once, I am trying to find a way to do this from the server.

I thought that was where Home Folders came in but I'm not sure what the Home Folder is. Sadly I still don't understand based on the explanation given in this thread. Would you be so kind as to spell out the purpose of the Home Folder so I might grasp its meaning?

Regards,
