I have a Toshiba laptop that came with Windows XP Home Edition installed and
no CD-ROM came with it. Is there a way I can install the backup utility
without the CD-ROM?

XP Home needs the xp cd to install "backup"....However,actually the best
backup utility is the file transfer wizard in xp...Set the wizard as old
computer,
select the files, folders, settings, etc to save, save the data in a new folder
you
create, once the data is completed, move the folder to a cd.

Total bollocks once again, Andrew. Got your meds mixed up?

Leslie,
do you mean you didn't get the XP CD and got a "recovery cd" instead? I get
the feeling that you didn't mean that you didn't get a CD drive with the
Toshiba but that you didn't get the actual XP CD. As folks here have stated
you can get the utility as a download but I get the feeling you do have a CD
drive just not the XP CD.
I also recently got a low-end Toshiba laptop with XP Home and as far as I
can tell they all come with a CD drive.
Once you download the utility (as I did) you should make a copy and keep it
with your recovery CD.

Get it here: http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

Note, however, that as backup tools go, this is a poor one. You would do
much better to spend a few dollars and buy a third-party backup tool, like
Acronis True Image.
