This looks like a silent or brand new newsgroup.
Is there any other news groups for C# available ?

If by silent you mean several hundred posts per day then yes, it's pretty
quiet in here :-)

Try downloading headers 1000 at a time until you're tired of it.

Bob and Nick,

It seems to me as well a little bit that this newsgroup has an other point
when it comes real to life than the newsgroups I am (more) active in.

Following your conversation, I have a quick question. I am kinda new to
this whole newsgroup thing and posted a rather complicated query (on a few
of the microsoft.public.dotnet newsgroups) to which I don't seem to get any
responses.

Can anyone suggest another newsgroup where I can post my question. It
relates to remoting in c#.

Thanks for your helps.

Jako,
Try "microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.remoting".

Thanks for that, I have a post on there, but no responses either.

Jako,

Have you posted here? I'd be more than willing to take a look at it.

Jako,

Sometimes I post questions here and nobody has the expertise to answer.

If that happens to you, please post an answer to the group if you find
one. Someday, someone else may be searching for a solution to the same
problem and find your topic in the archives.

I've posted a couple of questions here that I ended up answering
myself. I make a point of posting the solution when I find it, even if
it looks as though I'm talking to myself. ;)

To be honest this group is incredibly diverse. I look out for graphics
questions and I'll answer C# language questions if John or Nick doesn't get
to them first, which they usually do, but C# is such a broad scope that even
experts would be hard pressed to answer everything. To even attempt that
you'd have to be an expert or guru in every aspect of .NET including COM,
Win32 interop, C# language law, remoting, ASP.NET, OOP, reflection.... The
list goes on...

The sheer number of posts makes it difficult to even look at all the
questions, let alone answer some of them.

The top MVP poster can answer about 26 posts a day. This group sees between
two and five hundred posts per day.

The public groups are all about individuals getting in there and helping
out. Never let a question you think you can answer go by. It'll help someone
and you'll find more people to help you if you do.

Thanks for the reply. The question I posted's subject is "How to "kill" a
tcp port", posted on 31/01/2005.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob / Bruce

It seems like the best thing to do it to wait for an MVP on
"dotnet.framework.remoting" to read my post. It's not that urgent, so I can
afford to wait.

I've been trying to answer some questions, but I'm a bit careful to give
people the wrong advice as I'm not all that experienced in c# yet.

Thanks for the advice.

Bob,

Sorry I find this a derogatory message for people who are non MVP's and
active in these newsgroups (not only me).

In my idea are MVP's awarded, not placed on a special position in the
newsgroups.

Where this message means not that it change my thinking about you, however I
had not expected it from you.

Cor

?

Are there only MVP's *active* in these newsgroup as what could be readed
from your message?

Regulars know it is not however newbies can get another idea from your
message.

I write this as well to show others who want to be active in these newsgroup
not to give the wrong idea that they are not allowed to post. Otherwise I
had sent a mail too you.

Cor,

I think you got the wrong poster from the message you are referring to. The
only message I see that Bob posted is the one regarding how silent it is in
here....the post I believe you are referring to was written by Bruce.

Mythran

Mythran,

No I was not, mentioning only Jon Skeet, Nick Paldino and himself all MVP's
as the posters of this newsgroup, does place MVP's on a place that some
MVP's seems to like to put themself on.

Talking about "MVP's" topposters only gives me an idea about giving a signal
about the quality of the answers.

I have nothing against all three by the way. I find it greath guys helping
everybody. However I have been in communist countries where the partymembers
(Police) placed themself outside the community.

I get everytime those feelings when I see MVP's placing them self on a
status they don't have. Luckily it is seldom done.
