Hmm, is it busy in here?

Sounds like you have time on your hands. Might as well reinstall Vista on
your PC!

Jeff what you been up to? My country it dumb enought to send Blackhawks to
get shot down every day but it also has news media who send choppers to
hover over the hospital where 39YO Anna Nichol Smith was DOA following
unsuccessful CPR.

#1 story in the country where culture with a capital "C" matters and all
chilluns be left behind--particularly the news media.

We are being deprived of those scholarly useful Colin Barnhorst posts. Nice
work on the upgrade scenarios last week.

Chad,

Maybe you can explain to me why it is that I see, sometimes, only replies
and not the original msgs... it is very frustrating... is it a server thing
or a client thing?

Thanks,

Lang

Lang, in Windows Mail, got to Tools, Options, Read tab and uncheck get x
headers at a time. See if that works :)

The only bad thing about doing that, is if you go into a
group with a lot of posts, it can choke Windows Mail
sometimes.

I went to the Outlook group the other day, WinMail
started to download about 3000 posts, and it took
forever. My processor shot to about 100% and
it was impossible to do anything else.

Did you change the default setting in Windows Mail in regards to the number
of headers to be downloaded? Default is 300. This group is getting more
than 300 posts a day. Either increase the setting (I think 999 is the
maximum number that field will accept) or uncheck the option to get *all*
posts.

If using "show unread messages only" you can toggle back to "show all
messages" to see the entire thread.

Jane,

Thanks for the answer... I did that and it seems to help. Also did a sync,
but stopped after it pulled down 5K msgs... was taking too long and I'd
gotten my answer by then anyway. :-P

I'm syncing all messages right now and it's not impacting my system at
all... even opening IE and surfing is snappy. Running Ultimate RTM on a Dell
Lattitude D820 w/ 2GB's RAM... I agree, it does take a long time, but it
doesn't seem to be having a negative impact on system performance. Not
saying it doesn't have a negative impact on your system performance... just
not seeing that here.

Thanks,

Lang

Lang,

The one thing I have found out while using WinMail-
the longer you use it, the worse it becomes. Compacting
only helps a little. I only use WinMail for reading newsgroups,
and it really is a terrible news reader. I'm willing to bet once
you've subscribed to several groups, downloaded many posts-
you will start to notice stability and responsiveness problems.
It's not all the time, but WinMail has some serious issues.
Seems much worse than OE ever was.

Take care,

Michael
