When installing applications on a partition other then C:\ . Is
HKLM\Software\ the key to target inoder to backup application data and paths
so that after reformatting all is needed is merging the keys to the programs
which were saved on the new partition? If this is true is there any ill
effects when using this method with software based walls and antiviri
programs?

That wouldn't work. After formatting the drive you'll need to reinstall
those applications.

Dave - why is that could u explain to me a bit more why this wouldnt work. I
read some where a while back about how U could install your applications on
a seperate drive so that u would never have to install them again how is
this method achieved?

Where did you read this? Can you post a link? An application install
sometimes places files in \Program Files\Common Files, \winnt\system32, and
writes to other registry keys including the current user hive. Not to
mention DLL and or OCX registrations.

Dave - I dont have a link. I happened to come by it some time ago and have
had this on my list of things to look into. After reading your last post i
realized that this wouldnt be possible for walls, antiviri, or other
programs unless as U said a person were to relocate there system32 folder as
well and then it should have no ill effects. I might test this theory
torwards the latter part of this week or the next but would appriciate any
further input u or the rest of the people here on this board.
